Exploring Abstraction at Woodstock School of Art: Day 2/Painting

Day 2 of Jenny Nelson’s fantastic workshop on abstract art-making was focused on painting. We spent the better half of the morning on color study, mixing up shades and tints, and creating a neutral palette of broken colors and chromatic greys with earth colors. We also played with R&F oil sticks and a Woody 3-in-1 pencil. I found this process of painting wet into wet very challenging, and made a lot of mud. The palette knife became my friend as I found myself scraping off my work several times for a “new beginning.”
