Sharing space
Someone made a jetty out of the rocks along the river, and perhaps they also placed these two large trunks of driftwood to bob and seesaw back and forth from the waves of small boats. Or maybe yesterday’s storm brought them from upriver., dragged off shore and then placed over here where they are now stuck.
Whatever the case, they create a beautiful, protective nook where one can sit and contemplate.
A young female mallard duck has come by to check me out, swimming in and around all of the boulders and trucks from a safe distance. She seems curious about what is floating just under the surface. The encounter is a reminder that we share the river, that art materials should not negatively impact ecology.
Also, only through calm, stillness, and patience can we make room for unexpected surprises.
