Looking and listening

This semester I have been waffling between rushing through to make painting decisions quickly, and working on 4 paintings simultaneously over the course of several months. This is new. Normally, I will set it and forget it, moving on to the next thing. But my mentor has recommended that I learn to listen to what my painting is asking for. Needless to say, I am uncomfortable, but hoping this opens something new.
