Mourning Ritual
A solemn moment at the Crit Ecologies exhibition at Hudson Valley MoCA in Peekskill NY. In my performance of the Mourning Ritual, I removed one of the body membranes from the wall installation, and carried it to the closest person, intending to quickly walk it around the room. But my friend Susan held her hands out, and so I handed her the piece. And with great care, the body was held and slowly passed around the room, people carefully supporting the legs so they would not drop.
It was such a beautiful moment as people came together to help support this form, transforming a piece of paper into an actual body that needed care and tenderness. It was an emotional moment. I like others can project memory of loved ones onto the sculpture. It was a quiet moment and one I would like to thank all the participants who share this moment with my work.
