Lightness of being
I give life to body-sized sheets of paper in a ritualistic baptism that transforms their practical usage. Carefully unwrapping the material to avoid tears, I reform and transmute the paper into ephemeral figures that are heavy yet weightless, resilient yet fragile, and hollow yet filled with breath.
These bodies become screens, absorbing, reflecting, and projecting light and shadow. They evoke states of life, veiled remains, tender folds of skin poised for a rite of passage, votives of memory and longing, and shells of a carved-out existence. Vulnerable and delicate, they deflate over time as if in silent mourning.
Memorialized through photography and video, these figures continue to exist long after their inevitable decay, leaving behind only shreds of a torn shroud and a digital record of their journey.
