In-Person Critique

After an intensive week of online residency, I drove up to Boston for 3 days of in-person critique. Setting up the work in a physical space was a great change, and having people view the paintings up close made a difference, because I was able to create more of an experience in viewing. I imagine over the course of a week of reconfiguration, I would have a better idea of where this work wants to go. There is something about seeing the work in a space that helps transform the thoughts about the piece.

I am trying to connect to something that is…
(Meaningful)
(Larger than Self)
(Motherhood)
(The Role as Woman)

The cave is a place of retreat, trying to illuminate,
(The Creative Self)
Trying to commune with other women.
(Past Generations in the Family)

Grappling with the fear of darkness,
(My Own Darkness)
And finding the technology to leave the cave.
(A shedding)
(Shedding doubt)
(Shedding shame)

This is the journey.

Is this a terrible journey or a beautiful journey,
(It’s the journey)
Let the painting become the portal.
